Hi all, many thanks to Maryam for catching this, while I got the previous note from Robin re duplication of transmission of my note to the PC, I did not get this response....weird, I am trying to check the spam filter at the university to  see if there is a problem there.  Sooner or later they may cut my service, so treading carefully...

So thanks for this response!  I will send the proposed redraft shortly.  I hope you all got my note with the link to Ed's lengthy analysis of our obligations in terms of the Charter and Bylaws.

anyway, if we are in agreement, I would like to get the rewritten note out as soon as possible, if NPOC folks could focus on this and give me your thoughts, it would be great.

Thanks very much, Steph.  This is a good start and appreciate your flexibility.  I think we should announce now that we have two seats to fill on council, and indeed this could encourage more applicants since they know we’ve got two council seats to fill now.

The same charter section goes on to state that:

  1.  “…Reasonable efforts should be taken to recruit nominees so that all geographical regions may be represented by the NCSG GNSO Council Representatives.  Reasonable efforts should also be taken to ensure gender balance and in no circumstance should there be fewer than 2 members of any gender…”
So I think we’d have a potential preference for representatives from geo regions that we don’t currently have represented and also a preference for females, since we only have 2 female representatives now.  So these are factors for us to consider in the overall balance and we should include this charter language in our announcement.

I’d also like for applicants to affirmatively confirm that they intend to attend all of the NCSG Policy Committee meetings and the GNSO Council meetings (absent extenuated circumstances).

Now, as has been pointed out rather eloquently by Robin, my failure to check the website's accuracy thoroughly by comparing with the official GNSO Council list, led to a great deal of discussion/confusion about regional representation.  Now that this particular can of worms has been opened, I expect that we will have the matter re-discussed on the list. Dear all,



As Amr Elsadr resigned from the council upon joining the staff, the

NCSG Executive Committee needs to appoint a temporary alternate to

replace him.



If you are interested in the job, please let me know as soon as

possible, but no later than Wednesday February 22 (one week from now).

The appointment is on the agenda of EC meeting on February 24, and we'd

want to have list of names at least two days in advance so we'll have

time to review them.



Please explain why you think you'd be good for the task and confirm

you could commit to the time it takes. Jumping in to the council

mid-term is not easy, so experience is one key criteria for the EC in

considering the appointment.



The term extends until ICANN60 in the fall in Abu Dhabi, although the

appointment can be made for a shorter time if the EC so chooses.

If this makes a difference for you, for example if you'd only be able

to do shorter time, or if you would not be interested in a shorter

appointment, let us know that, too.
