[NCSG-PC] Preparing for Johannesburg Meeting

Hi Rafik,

Apologies for the delay in my response; I have been offline the past six days for EuroDIG. I am not sure about this NCSG webinar anymore. It is a wonderful idea, however I am not sure we have the resources to compile it along with four daily outreach/policy sessions and (for those of us in the NCUC) a two-day pre-event, all of which is happening by the end of this month. Is this webinar critical? Will its content vary significantly from that which ICANN policy staff will be delivering anyway on 15 June? If the answer is in the affirmative, let's do it, but if not... maybe we should re-think having this webinar? Thanks.

Best wishes, Ayden Férdeline

Hi,

Thanks, Farzaneh, Stephanie, Ayden,
first thing is that we have to prepare for NCSG webinar. Understanding that we should avoid the week prior to the meeting and have a fair time to prepare, it means we can hold it next week, probably at the end of it.
Only one topic we got till now is Auctions proceeds and we can go with that. I am not sure we can have 2 calls in the same week so I am thinking if we can have 2hours webinar with:
- first hour to do a general policy briefing about ongoing PDPs and CCWG.
- Second hours taking auctions proceeds as 1 topic for discussion.
As dates, we can have the call in Wednesday or Friday. we should send invitations soon to NCSG members

@Stephanie are you able to prepare some slides to introduce the current status of auctions proceeds and why it matters got our members, what we need to do there?

for outreach/policy sessions of Daily 30min, I will work with Ayden and see how we can prepare that effectively. probably thinking about the format and how to present the topics presenting NCSG positioning and current status of PDPs for a diverse audience including newcomers.

our NCSG Policy Committee meeting, it is scheduled for Tuesday 13:30 to 15:00, depending on GNSO Council public meeting agenda we may spend time on discussing motions. however, I would like that we spend time on planning and prioritization, not just about the public comments.

Best,

Rafik

Hi Rafik,

Thanks so much for getting the ball rolling on this. On your first point, I would like to suggest that we have this call two weeks before Johannesburg. In the week before, NCUC members might be preparing for the NCUC outreach event, if not in transit to South Africa. In terms of dates, the staff-led policy update webinar is on Thursday, 15 June. I am free every day that week for our call so will wait to hear the preferred date/time of others.

Best wishes, Ayden

Hi all,

the ICANN59 meeting is just 4 weeks away and it is time to prepare for it since it is policy forum and so mainly about policy.

* Prior to the meeting
we usually have our NCSG call prior to a council meeting but we will have at least 6 weeks gap to our last call. One idea would be to organize a prep meeting 1 or 2 weeks prior to Johannesburg to give a briefing about the main topics to be discussed there, sessions etc. that should be from NCSG standpoint since there is also the usual ICANN meeting policy webinar organized by the staff. both are complementary for our members. there will be also the usual policy background briefing prepared from GNSO staff.

I am also thinking about organizing 1 webinar for one topic that we select and that we think important. any suggestion for a topic we should cover?

* During the meeting
we have to discuss the agenda for the policy committee session and what we should cover. I should share a draft agenda for discussion soon.
We may also have some informal session to share information and prepare for the sessions of the day

thoughts?

Best,

Rafik
