Dear Farzaneh, all,

Thank you for the feedback about the NCSG Advanced Policy Group Writing Additional Budget Request (ABR) webinar.

The ICANN Board approved this ABR with two conditions:
1.    Expanding the program to include all interested community groups
2.    The instruction materials, case studies, and lessons learned developed in consultation with Public Responsibility Support and the Policy liaison, with a view toward transformation into a sustainable course on ICANN Learn as an Advanced Policy Writing course.

The ABR was initially planned in person during an ICANN Public Meeting, but this was impossible due to the pandemic. Over a five-month period, there was a lot of planning by staff to ensure a successful delivery.

We recognize that the approval included the use of an external trainer to deliver this training. Due to planning delays, we worked with Bruna to develop a three-part webinar that would meet the goals of the training utilizing staff with expertise in these areas. We understand the importance of delivering this ABR to build on the NCUC Policy Writing Courses from FY18,19, and 20.

We hope this answers some of the concerns you have raised.

thanks for putting this together Bruna, and ICANN staff. It is a hard covid year and it is understandable that we might not want to spend resources on outside training and expertise. But how is this webinar a response to an “ABR”? I don’t think our request for additional budget was delivered. There was no additoonal budget allocated to us, it seems the current budget was used. All I am saying is that, it’s fine if ICANN doesn’t want to allocate additional budget. But perhaps we can just announce and accept that fact instead of saying we were allocated additional budget at zero cost!
