Meeting with CEO

I just had the call with CEO we discussed diversity and notes will be out
which I will share with you as soon as I get them.

I think when we talk about diversity at ICANN we have to divide between
what community does and what ICANN org does. Because the CEO does not and
cannot get involved with community decisions and appointments.

who makes decisions and on what: Board members are either appointed by
SO/ACs or are appointed by NomCom. If you want to make a change in their
procedures to consider diversity better (which they have been) then you
need to comment on nomcom review etc. Or you can bring up the issues in
our meetings. Or you can tell the chair of NCSG you want to send a letter
to them. CEO can't do anything with the diversity of SSAC. This is why we
do all the reviews.

the community comes up with the regional strategy. Arsene has been involved
with Africa strategy. Anyone else been involved? ICANN implements it with
the community oversight. Again this falls back on the community to comment
on the strategy document, tell ICANN how it wants it to be implemented.

ICANN org decides on meeting locations. they are aware of the visa issues
and on many occasions (last time as well) we raised this problem and tried
to solve it. We got Arsene who could not get a visa to Panama to get his
travel arranged earlier for Barcelona. Again we have to give more feedback
and complain.

Also there is an option of going to the complaint officer if you see that
ICANN org does not take action. But then going to complaint officer has to
be about ICANN org's decisions and not the community.

It is important to talk about diversity. I think we need diverse views
about what tools members need to get engaged with policy at ICANN (I did
not receive many answers on that) . we should have come up with a better
trend and strategy document that would include diversity (again not many
comments on that, even attendance at the meeting was poor).

I think ICANN should proactively enhance diversity and pay attention to
it, and if they don't we should write to them and tell them about it. But
when it comes to community decisions, the ball is in our court, it's the
matter of catching it.

Best

Farzaneh
