There is going to be enough confusion about our first f2f meeting in two years (have you read the Covid rules?) to try to implement some completely new structure that no one understands. And yes, some top-down structuring of our discussions should not get in the way of the real work!

Thanks for the reply! I did send an answer on the leadership list similar to what I said on the planning call that was for us to postpone any sort of new approach to another meeting instead of this one. Imho there will be a lot of will for communities to meet and the experience of a first hybrid meeting might already be too overwhelming for us to introduce a new approach.

On my email to the list I also said that if community leadership insisted on pursuing this new approach, it should not be an issue for the PDPs work, possibility for all of us to meet internally, and also the Plenaries.

But I’m also open to any new ideas and comments you all might have on the new proposed approach.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, but when I read the document it wants certain type of response by Mrach 31 (yesterday) and another deadline is today. Are we able to respond meaningfully to this request for input?

Hope this email finds you well.

As it might be of your knowledge by now, community and org are moving towards planning the next ICANN meeting as a hybrid one to he hosted in the Hague.

This meeting might be a little different in terms of approach as staff is proposing a new thematic approach (see attached document) with at least one day dedicated to a topic yet to be defined where the idea is to host unconflicted community sessions. So far there has been some support from groups such as GAC to host this thematic day, but together with at least another community plenary on another topic. On that note, GNSO leadership has also noted that this new approach is not in conflict with the policy work already conducted in this upcoming meeting and this doesnt affect further possibilities for community meetings and so on.

Whether we are adopting or not the thematic approach is yet to be defined by staff and community leaders and as of now, all Constituencies, SGs, SOs, and ACs should start working on their own list of funded travellers and so on.

As soon as I have further information on this I will write to the list!

Dear community leaders and members of the Community Meetings Planning Group,

Please find attached the relevant materials from the first production call for ICANN74 that we held yesterday with the Community Meetings Planning Group. These are: (1) the preliminary overview of what to expect on-site in The Hague; (2) the slides used on the call; and (3) the requested summary of the proposal to pilot a limited, thematic approach for ICANN74.

Please also note the following dates and additional points:

  1.  On Item (1) – We will be making additional and more detailed information available on 31 March, and updating that information regularly as the meeting dates draw nearer.
  2.  On Item (2) – While we anticipate maintaining the enclosed production schedule, please refer to the summary proposal document for an UPDATED illustrative block schedule.
  3.  On Item (3) – As requested, we have prepared a summary of the proposal to pilot a thematic approach for ICANN74. The summary document UPDATES a number of points that were in the original slides, based on the group’s feedback and discussion during the call. These include:

     *   Suggesting that the pilot be limited to just one daily track rather than two or more themes across the meeting;
     *   Updating the block schedule to reflect an additional slot (Block 5); and
     *   Clarifying the differences between a “plenary” session and a “thematic” work track.

We hope that the summary proposal addresses the questions that were raised during the call. We hope that, in accordance with the deadlines proposed in the paper, your community groups can provide feedback as follows:

  *   By 31 March – on the proposed thematic pilot; and
  *   By 1 April – on plenary sessions.

Please refer to the summary proposal for more details about these requests and deadlines. Thank you!
