Proposed modification of NCSG Strategic Review Working Group

Appreciate you taking this up, but the proposed charter is really two groups. Why don’t we just recognize that fact and form both of them? We can keep them separate so that each one can be more focused.

From long experience, I can tell you that a volunteer group that is given two completely different, unrelated tasks to do will probably not execute either one of them very well.

On engagement, I really don’t think a study is going to help. As Farzaneh’s message indicated, the answer to better engagement is to do things that engage people. It’s a very different and almost unrelated task from the one I proposed, which is to explore the merger idea.

Sorry to be blunt, but it’s very clear that some people see the study of “why people don’t engage” as a way of diverting our attention from the merger topic, because they don’t favor a merger.

To that I will say, if you don’t favor a merger, don’t join the task force! And/or vote against a merger when or if it is proposed! The task force is just trying to identify the problems and requirements of a merger. Understanding and exploring those issues does not by itself create a merger. It just allows us to more accurately identify its consequences should we choose to do it.

It is kind of unethical to say “you can’t discuss this or work on it because we don’t like the whole idea of a merger,” isn’t it?

People who don’t favor a merger: either get on the task force to help us uncover FACTS about how it wouldn’t work, or get out of the way and let others do that work.
