EPDP passes GNSO Council

I would be happy to do that Dorothy.  Let us remember that we have a 
long history in the NCSG of fighting for data protection in the 
treatment of the personal information of registered name holders, dating 
back to the earliest days, and resulting in repeat visits of data 
protection authorities to ICANN in 2003. 2004, 2014, and importantly in 
2017 when the late Giovanni Buttarelli, the European Data Protection 
Supervisor, joseph Canatacci the UN Special Rapporteur on privacy and 
senior officials from the Article 29 Working Party, the Interpol data 
protection unit, and the Council of Europe came to the meeting and spoke 
publicly and with the ICANN Board to reinforce the importance of ICANN 
complying with data protection law.  We worked closely with Peter 
Kimpian and Sophie Kwasny from the Council of Europe to arrange that 
visit, and I am pleased to report that Peter Kimpian will be coming to 
our meeting on October 19th to give us an update on what is happening in 
data prtoection with the COE.

I will consult with the EPDP team to come up with a short summary of our 
successes and key  takeaways from the EPDP experience, but it is good 
for our members to remember that good work takes a long time and many 
hands working cooperatively together in this environment, as is true in 
so many other struggles for the respect of human rights.
