I would be happy to do that Dorothy. Let us remember that we
have a long history in the NCSG of fighting for data protection in
the treatment of the personal information of registered name
holders, dating back to the earliest days, and resulting in repeat
visits of data protection authorities to ICANN in 2003. 2004,
2014, and importantly in 2017 when the late Giovanni Buttarelli,
the European Data Protection Supervisor, joseph Canatacci the UN
Special Rapporteur on privacy and senior officials from the
Article 29 Working Party, the Interpol data protection unit, and
the Council of Europe came to the meeting and spoke publicly and
with the ICANN Board to reinforce the importance of ICANN
complying with data protection law. We worked closely with Peter
Kimpian and Sophie Kwasny from the Council of Europe to arrange
that visit, and I am pleased to report that Peter Kimpian will be
coming to our meeting on October 19th to give us an update on what
is happening in data prtoection with the COE.

I will consult with the EPDP team to come up with a short summary
of our successes and key takeaways from the EPDP experience, but
it is good for our members to remember that good work takes a long
time and many hands working cooperatively together in this
environment, as is true in so many other struggles for the respect
of human rights.

Kind regards

news and congratulations to the entire team especially Rafiq

bullet points on what was achieved. i.e what provisions were
included as a result of NCSG involvement. This way we will
track our contribution better and inspire more members to get
involved. If someone has it in their head but they do not
want to write it up I can help. We can set up a call and I

difference our existence makes to key outcomes. It could be it
has been done already, my schedule has been tough for a few
months so apologies if I missed it.

folks,

I just thought I would announce to the list that the EPDP
Phase 2 report
was voted through by Council this morning, despite two votes
against it
from the Business and Intellectual Property Constituencies.
Many thanks
to our EPDP team of nine long-suffering members, who have been
working
on this since 2018, and to Rafik who was Council Liaison to
the EPDP,
and took over as Chair when Janis Karklins left this spring.
It was a
long and exhausting haul, but much good work was done and we
have
managed to move the yardsticks in a positive direction, in my
opinion.

There is still plenty of work to do on the IRT, if anyone is
interested
in Joining. While we congratulate Amr El Sadr on his new job
and wish
him the very best, he has had to resign from the NCSG team due
to
conflicts, and so will no longer be representing us on the
IRT.

Congrats to all!
