I think it is meant to include Councillors, who may not have chaired anything and who are not in a chairing role either (but have potential to volunteer for these roles.)  But this is a guess...

From the form, it does seem mandatory to be a current or previous chair, at least within ICANN only. There are two registrations data fields that support this idea:


  1.  Have you had experience as a Chair within ICANN? ==> The registration process imagines an experience of chair outside ICANN, otherwise they should have asked the applicant to select directly the relevant ICANN experience from a list.
  2.  If you answered "yes" in the question above, what is/was your position? (Please type "n/a" if you have NOT been a Chair). ==> The registration process here tends to open to non-chairs volunteers

I had not  shared this announcement on the list yet because it needed some background information and registration deadline is on 20th December. So plenty of time. With ICANN 63 upon us, it's better for Stephanie when becoming chair after AGM to select people for this. But note that this program is for current or to be chairs. Members cannot individually apply. So to avoid disappointment, I advise not to apply individually. should current or incoming chairs of a constituency or stakeholder group not be able to attend they will announce on the list to find a replacement. That replacement has to have travel support already the program does not provide that.

I was a part of the program and had a great coach, Thomas Rickert. We could not finalize it because of my inability to go to the meetings when I was NCUC chair. But it was a good experience.

Registration Open for ICANN Academy 2019 Chairing Skills Program

LOS ANGELES – 16 October 2018 – The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has issued a call for registrations for the 2019 Chairing Skills Program (CSP). The CSP addresses the chairing skill challenges that ICANN community contributors can face when taking up the responsibility of leading a working group or stakeholder group. It is essentially a peer-coaching program that focuses on new ICANN Chairs that wish to be coached by their peers.
