Update on PIR Advisory Council Meeting

Dear all,

We had an advisory council of Public Interest Registry meeting a week ago
and here are my notes:


1. Brian Cute has stepped down as the CEO. Did an excellent job. change of
CEO does not change the mission of PIR. They will continue operating as
usual. The change was forthcoming anyway and it is quite natural for
organizations to evolve and change.

2. Board has appointed the new interim CEO Jay Daley, experienced in the
market, part of SSAC. To be clear Jay has announced from the beginning that
he has no intention to become the CEO. He will be only for 6 months and PIR
is now looking for a suitable candidate. Roberto and Jay will be in Panama
City, you can approach them and ask questions about the position.

3. The board had a meeting last week in Mumbai. The notes will be sent out
soon to the advisory council.

4."PIR is recruiting a new CEO and will use a global search firm.  A number
of directors including the Interim CEO will be in Panama City and will make
themselves available for anyone who wants to talk about the CEO role."


Performance measurement of the organization as well.  Administrative
processes such as value for money, travel booking etc, Understanding the
nature of education and outreach, there is no concern about financial
stability for PIR, strategically because of Jay (the interim CEO) just
fills the gap to operationalize the already made plans so plans will be
kept at the high level and carried out under the supervision of the interim
CEO,

"The tasks the board has set for the Interim CEO, in addition to managing
the recruitment of a new CEO, include
- ensuring that the strategy continues to be delivered
- enhance the performance management culture with increased measurement and
visibility
- looking at measures to improve value for money in procurement
- realigning the education and outreach program to fit more closely with
PIRs mission and to coordinate with ISOC activities

PIR considers that it continues to be a well funded and well managed
organization with excellent staff."

5.New  charter for PIR Advisory Council has been approved by the Board and
it will be sent to us soon. Note that we need to take action soon on
appointing a representative from NCSG to the advisory council, we will
discuss the process with NCSG PC. I am going to ask to start the process.

6. Board wants to better communicate with AC and seeks advice on better
modes of communications. Since it was said that AC should not be involved
in operational matters I suggested that the Board tells us on what issues
they need feedback.
