Call for Candidates to represent the NCSG on the EPDP Team

*Dear Members,As you may be aware, the GNSO Council is in the process of
initiating an Expedited Policy Development Process (EPDP) to address the
Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data that was adopted by the
ICANN Board. As a result, we are launching a call for candidates to be
appointed to represent the NCSG in the EPDP. The NCSG is looking for 6
representatives and 3 alternates. The EPDP will require a serious and
substantial time and capacity commitment from our representatives, as we
will be defending a free and open Internet.While GNSO Working Groups are
typically open to all who wish to participate, this EPDP will only be
composed of appointed GNSO Stakeholders Group representatives and a small
number of SO/AC appointed liaisons. The EPDP charter, still under
deliberation, outlines the requirements for EPDP-appointed members. These
requirements for members include: - Possessing a working/basic
understanding of the GDPR. All members must commit to participating in the
training selected for the EPDP Team to ensure knowledge adequate to
effectively participate in the EPDP;- Be responsible to their appointing
organization (in our instance, the NCSG), seeking input as necessary and
keeping the appointing organization informed of progress;- Be knowledgeable
of, and respect the, GNSO policy development process;- Willing to work, in
good faith, toward consensus solutions during the life of the EPDP, and
treat other members of the Team with respect;- Available to actively
contribute to the activities of the EPDP on an ongoing basis, including
during face-to-face meetings of the EPDP Team; and- Willing to sign the
EPDP Team Statement of Participation. For the appointed members, there is
an expectation that they commit to actively participating in the EPDP for a
significant amount of time: there are likely to be multiple phone calls per
week and daily attention to the tasks and progress of the group is needed.
For this intense policy development process, which will extend for the next
6 to 8 months, it is essential that any NCSG representative is prepared to
participate fully and regularly in the discussion. It is an expectation
that members will represent the position of their appointing organization
and not their personal views. The NCSG’s appointed members are therefore
expected to liaise with the NCSG Policy Committee, consult with wider
membership, and to coordinate their positions with their fellow NCSG
representatives on the EPDP team and the NCSG GNSO Councillors. All EPDP
members must sign a Statement of Participation (please see the current

(still under development).The NCSG Policy Committee will liaise with the
appointed representatives and organize channels to consult with membership
regarding the work of the EPDP team. It will also support the work of the
NCSG representatives through providing regular and adequate feedback and
input when needed.If you are interested in representing the NCSG on the
EPDP, you must: - Be familiar with the EPDP process discussion regarding
its scope, the Temporary Specification(s), Whois issues, and privacy in
general. Knowledge of the GDPR and how it impacts the EPDP is essential;-
Having a level of familiarity with GNSO processes;- Commit to participating
actively in the EPDP through its lifecycle, understanding that this could
be a significant time commitment for the next 6-8 months, including
participating  actively on the conference calls, attending face-to-face
meetings (at least 3 F2F meetings), and making intelligent and professional
interventions on the EPDP’s mailing list, most likely starting from the end
of July;- Commit to keeping NCSG members updated and consulting with them
regularly, with support and guidance from the NCSG Policy Committee; and-
If selected, sign the EPDP Team Statement of Participation.In order for
your application to be considered, you must: - Submit an Expression of
Interest indicating in detail your previous proven experience in GNSO
Policy Development Processes and/or other ICANN Working Groups, familiarity
with Whois/RDS and privacy issues, familiarity with data protection and in
particular the GDPR, familiarity with NCSG positions on Whois/RDS, and
outline how you will coordinate and liaise with NCSG and other EPDP
members. You can also add any other relevant information or experience for
consideration by the selection committee;- Submit a series of bullet points
that outline at a high level the positions you intend to advocate for, on
behalf of the NCSG, if you are chosen to represent the NCSG on the EPDP;-
Submit an updated Statement Of Interest (SOI) form to the ICANN wiki page;-
Indicate if you wish to be considered as a full member or alternate (the
NCSG can appoint up to 3 alternates who will participate if a member is not
available. Alternates must keep up with all relevant EPDP team
deliberations to ensure they remain informed and able to participate when
needed); and- Comment on your ability to commit to and participate in this
working group over the next six to eight months, noting if there are any
periods of greater than one week where you expect that you will not be
available to participate in the EPDP. Please also advise if you are
unavailable to participate in calls at any regular times. This is for
planning purposes only, and occasional absences will not be a disqualifying
factor.Please include specific examples in your application as to how you
meet the selection criteria and how you will represent the NCSG if you
serve on the EPDP. This will aid the NCSG Policy Committee in selecting
representatives.The deadline for the submission of applications is
