Leadership program for ICANN 61

I am glad that two valuable members can attend. Even though I was not candidate, I have one observation, however: Last year, If I am not wrong, the same FIFO (first in first out/served) criterion was applied to select the participant. Since time zones are different (for reading e-mail after work or early in the morning), I don't think that it is fair to use FIFO to select people for such an important/interesting training. I suggest that we take that into account for next application.

Thanks everyone for showing interest. Since Michael Karanikolas showed interest first, he will be the primary attendee of the LP and Arsene who applied later will be the alternate.

If you have already secured funding to go to ICANN 61 and are interested to attend the leadership program below, please send me and Maryam an email and express your interest. You should be in a leadership position already or an incoming leader. You could also apply if you are not in a leadership position though priority will go to the leaders and you can be an alternate. Please do not apply individually for the course your  name should be endorsed by NCSG EC first.


Please send in your SOI by 4th Jan. We need to endorse a name by 5th. 




there is no specific criteria for endorsing other than being a leader and not having attended the program previously so the allocation  will go to the leader who sends in the request first. For alternates, they should prove they are either in a leadership role or they are active members of NCSG. 

(Leader means you are an officer, for example an NCSG rep on Council, NCSG EC,NCUC EC or NPOC EC).

The ICANN Academy Leadership Program (LP) during the ICANN58 Meeting in Copenhagenwas another success and the next LP is scheduled to take place 7-9 March 2018, prior to the ICANN61 meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  


 

For this program, ONE seat is reserved for a representative from your stakeholder group. The program is designed for current andincoming leaders, helping to increase understanding of the complexity of ICANN and to develop facilitation skills. We are aware that understanding ICANN as an organization, the topics discussed within ICANN, and interaction within other stakeholder groups is challenging for incoming leaders, but sometimes also for experienced leaders. ICANN and the community are making considerable efforts in order to help incoming leaders have a good start to their terms and to provide current leaders the opportunity to strengthen their leadership and facilitation skills. Opportunities for Leadership Program participants include the following:  


   
   - Meet leaders from the other AC/SOs
   - Discuss important ICANN topics in an in-depth manner
   - Deepen the understanding of key ICANN processes
   - Develop facilitation and leadership skills, focused personal effectiveness to run meetings and foster processes

 





Accommodation for participants will be covered between Tuesday, 6 March and Thursday, 8 March 2018, and participants will receive a stipend. Please note that flights will NOT be covered under this program, as incoming and current leaders are normally covered by the regular ICANN travel support. Please ensure that the leaders you select are being covered by ICANN Travel Support for their flights to Puerto Rico for ICANN61.
