Important update on ICANN and WHOIS GDPR Compliance

Dear NCSG members,

Please find attached the Article 29 WP letter in response to our letter
about ICANN WHOIS compliance with GDPR.

It is quite a refreshing letter. Almost all of the concerns we raised
regarding the model have been confirmed by the Art 29 WP. They have pointed
out ICANN's WHOIS Compliance model shortcomings based on GDPR.


We have been very effective so far in this process (though a law had to
come into effect to help us a little bit). But we should celebrate this
effectiveness, laws have most of the time been helping other causes and not
ours!

I would like to also thank Stephanie Perrin for her great work on this
issue.
