Fwd: [council] Open Board Sessions 6 and 7 May

It would be useful if someone who dials into the call on Sunday could take the minutes and share them on our list. I would be grateful if someone did that, as I remember it took quite some time for the minutes from a Board call on the FY18 Budget to be circulated. I think they might have waited for the next Board meeting to confirm them first. Thanks!

Hi Michael,

There is common ground between the 2 groups and willingness to cooperate more as it was discussed in CCWG-IG session in copenhagen meeting. We even amended the charter to highlight that (pending approval from chartering organizations)
The session seems a working meeting for the board and I expect that outcomes will be shared with the group.

Best,

Rafik

Hi Rafik,

Thanks. Is there an agenda available?

Please also recognize the seemingly frustrating layers of complexity here. I never even realized there was a board working group on IG. And I then given the level of interest expressed in Copenhagen (by board members), I am surprised that there is no link between the board's WG on IG and the CCWG-IG.

Best,
-Michael

Hi Michael,

It is a board session, by the board working group on IG. It is not related to CCWG-IG working group. The latter was briefed on its last confcall by ICANN staff about the session which is held during board retreat.

Hi Ayden,

I agree, and marked it on my calendar when I saw it without much thought about it. In fact, I assumed it was simply a continuation of the discussion that began during the first face-to-face meeting with the Cross-Community Working Group on Internet Governance (CCWG-IG) at ICANN58. Farzaneh noticed it as well, however, and sent a message asking for clarification to the CCWG-IG list. We'll see what they say.

Either way, remote participation is available as you can see, and I personally encourage anyone involved in a national and regional IGF initiative (NRI) to participate since ICANN involvement and sponsorship is often critical to their success. The board members in attendance in Copenhagen seemed to agree, but providing direct examples of how ICANN involvement helped the NRIs will likely go a long way.

Best,
-Michael

Thank you for sharing this agenda, Stephanie. The session titled, "Internet Governance Engagement Strategy with a Focus on the Internet Governance Forums (IGFs): Proposal to the Board" sounds very interesting. I wonder what this proposal entails?
