Dear all,
There was a request for more information regarding the sessions ICANN Org’s
Next Round team is planning for ICANN87. Please see below the communication
from Marika Konings to this aim:
Dear All,
We understood that there was a request for further info on the session we
are planning to organize related to the 2026 Round. We are still in the
early days of planning so nothing is set in stone and would appreciate your
feedback on whether these topics are considered helpful for both the ICANN
community as well as applicants as these groups prepare for the next steps
in the processing phase. To reiterate, these suggested topics assume that
Reveal Day will happen prior to ICANN87, which is something we will only be
able to confirm after the close of the application window. Should Reveal
Day take place after ICANN87 (due to volume), the plenary session could be
adapted to prepare applicants for what to expect on and after Reveal Day.
We’ve added some further detail on the topics we are thinking of covering
during the daily sessions:
- *Plenary-type session – Reveal Day and beyond:* Review statistics and
trends derived from Reveal Day information; highlight upcoming actions for
applicants and the broader community; and provide an opportunity for Q&A.
- *Daily focused sessions, schedule permitting (Sat-Thursday):* Offer
topic-specific sessions relevant to applicants and the broader community to
help them prepare for what comes next. Some possible topics that could be
covered during these sessions includes:
- GAC Member Early Warnings, GAC Consensus Advice, application
comments – what can applicants expect?
- Replacement String Period, String Confirmation Day and
Prioritization Draw – what to expect from these different events?
- Objections and Appeals, including participation from DRSPs – how
does this work, who can file, and what is expected from applicants and
objectors?
- Community input: application comments, singular/plural
notifications, objections, change request comment period – how
and when can
the general public provide input on new gTLD applications or changes to
applications?
- String evaluations – what evaluations will start on string
confirmation day and what can applicants expect?
- Name Collision – initial assessment, temporary delegation and final
assessment – what can applicants expect?
- *Dedicated 2026 Round booth:* Provide a dedicated space where staff
will be available to demonstrate the new platforms, the Application
Publication System (APS) and Application Comment Forum (ACF); answer
questions; and collect feedback from applicants on their experience during
the application submission window. This feedback is intended to help inform
improvements for the current round and future rounds.
We look forward to receiving your feedback.
Best regards,
Marika
Thank you all!
Nathalie
