Committee Member

Dear Tomslin, Julf, and Andrea,
I am writing to express my interest in the position of either the GNSO
NextGen Mentor or Selection Committee Member. I understand the importance
of these roles in shaping the future of the NextGen program within ICANN
and the responsibilities that come with representing the Non-Commercial
Stakeholders Group (NCSG) within the GNSO pool.
I have over 15 years of experience in the NGO sector, with a focus on
Digital Rights, Freedom of Expression, Media Freedom, and Internet
Governance. I have engaged with a broad spectrum of stakeholders on
critical issues, including capacity-building and mentorship programs. As a
Programme Officer at Media Rights Agenda, my work often involves advocating
for underrepresented communities and supporting the development of emerging
technologies safely and ethically.
Additionally, I have experience in fostering grassroots advocacy and
community capacity-building initiatives. My involvement with the RightsCon
Indigenous Working Group and participation in fellowship programs such as
the Article 19 IoR Fellowship, African School on Internet Governance, and
Internews Infuse Fellowship have given me a robust understanding of the
broader digital rights ecosystem and the necessity for developing future
leaders and advocates.
Throughout my career, I have consistently championed NCSG’s principles of
inclusivity, diversity, and the advancement of civil society in global
Internet governance. My work in digital rights advocacy aligns with the
NCSG’s policy positions, particularly regarding the protection of online
freedoms, data privacy, and ensuring equitable access to the Internet for
marginalized populations. I am deeply committed to these values and would
bring this dedication to the role of mentor or selection committee member.
Given my background in capacity-building, mentorship, and alignment with
NCSG principles, I am well-suited to contribute meaningfully to the GNSO
NextGen program. I am excited about the opportunity to help shape future
generations of Internet governance leaders and continue advancing the
NCSG's objectives.
I would like to ask the PC to consider my candidacy for endorsement to
represent NCSG within the GNSO pool. Thank you for your time and
consideration.
Best regards,
John
