Dear Members of the EPIC Advisory Board,

The *_FCC has agreed to consider EPIC’s Petition_* to end the FCC
regulation that requires telephone companies to keep the toll records of
their customers for 18 months. EPIC initiated this action in 2015, with
the support of many members of the EPIC Advisory Board. Now *_we need to
get comments to the FCC in support of the petition_*.

Here are the _*key reasons to end the FCC mandate:*_

    • The mass retention of telecommunications records implicates
privacy and freedom of association of millions of Americans who are
    suspected of no wrongdoing.

    • The retention of sensitive phone records increases the likelihood
of large-scale data breaches like the OPM data breach in 2015

    • Modern non-measured, bundled phone billing makes the rule unnecessary.

    • The US data retention requirement for telephone records is at odds
with international law and fundamental rights

*_Here is how you can help:_*

own. The FCC link is here:

We need a broad response for the FCC to act favorably.

Thanks for your help with this. There is not much time to act.

Marc.
