I think we need to ask what qualifies him to be the organisation's Chief Data Protection Officer. The individual hired has no experience (as best I can tell from his bio) in privacy or data protection, so I am very curious as to how he plans to counsel ICANN on the development of privacy practices, policies, and internal data security requirements. That he has worked for ICANN for 17 years suggests to me he will be looking to reinforce the status quo, not push for any meaningful change, though I hope very much I am mistaken.
