[NCSG-FC] Personal News / Potential Conflict

Hello Thato,

Ahead of the call today I advised the NCUC Chair of the need to launch a call for my replacement. I also acknowledged this on today’s call, noting that my resignation is effective 30 July 2019 (so in three weeks time). So I will remain here as Chair until the NCUC appoints someone else. I did not want to spring this on the NCUC with no notice.

However, the business of the Committee must go on, so I will continue to work over the coming weeks to develop our Operating Procedures to make life easier for our next Chair.

As to your second question/comment, I think there is a misunderstanding. I said on today’s call that input should be received from both members of the FC and non-members. For example, Thato — you are no longer a member of the FC. But I still listen to your inputs :) That’s what I’m fighting for: broader participation.

Best wishes,

Ayden

If you will no longer be an NCUC member then according to the Charter you cannot represent any constituency within the FC, the NCSG EC, I think can appoint members into the FC. The normal process is that if you decide to proceed then NCUC must call for another representative, consult the Charter for guidance.

And if so, I understand you cannot continue commenting and providing input when you should be leading the process and resolving issues as they come and also in advance. Sometimes you need to be on the other side and work with members, who may not always agree with you in a collaborative way, in order to relieve strain of your work, since we are operating within a diverse organisation (ICANN) with a unique setup.

I flag this because, as I was reviewing the draft operating procedures and reflecting on comments I made during today's call, I indicated that non-members of the Finance Committee should be able to comment and provide input to the Finance Committee. Given I may well be one of those individuals, this could be seen as a bias in the document.

I do not think it is a major bias that materially impacts my ability to further contribute to the development of the operating procedures, but ultimately that is not and should not be my decision to make, so please do speak up if you disagree with my assessment. Thanks.
