FYI. I understood the clarification so that Ed would still
participate on this Thursday's council session, if we can't
appoint a temporary alternate in time.
Suggestions for the temporary alternate or how to select
one welcome. Perhaps we should send a call for volunteers
to ncsg-discuss.
Also, this is EC decision, but if we find consensus on
the list we don't need to have a call about it.
We can, however try to schedule a call, too. It would be useful to
have one more this year anyway. The last possible date I could
possibly do is December 16 (and it'd have to be evening UTC time,
something like 2100).

Dear Tapani,
Due to some unexpected occurrences in my life of a personal nature, I
need to request a two month leave of absence from my GNSO Council
position, effective immediately.
I'm sorry to have to let down both yourself and the fine members of
the NCSG but sometimes life hands one a challenge that needs complete
focus to deal with. I find myself in that situation today. I hope
people can understand.
I look forward to rejoining Council fully energised in two months
time. In the interim I am happy to assist the temp alt selected to
replace me in any way needed.
Kind Regards,
Ed Morris

Subject: Leave Clarification
Dear Tapani,
In order to minimise disruption to NCSG's representation on Council
please note that I have asked for a leave but such request is
predicated upon my full replacement by a temporary alternate
Councillor.
Although I understand the purpose of proxies, and have requested
coverage but have never used them in the past, proxies leave the NCSG
at a disadvantage by reducing the number of active voices on Council.
They are appropriate for acute situations to replace a Councillor in
an emergency but in my view are inappropriate for the situation I
currently find myself in.
I would ask that the NCSG EC act in an expeditious manner to
temporarily replace me as requested but I am prepared to carry out my
responsibilities on Council until such time as they do. I hope the EC
takes this opportunity to empower a new voice within our SG, turning a
negative situation into a positive one.
Kind Regards,
Edward Morris
