From alain.berranger Thu Jan 3 19:54:31 2013 From: alain.berranger (Alain Berranger) Date: Thu, 3 Jan 2013 12:54:31 -0500 Subject: [EC-NCSG] New NCSG Membership Applications Approval by email ? Message-ID: Dear Colleagues, Do you think possible to do routine approval by email on an on-going basis and to hold telephone calls for more difficult cases? For instance, I would approve the following applications by email without any hesitation: Internet Society Belgium ISOC Armenia I would not approve: Engineering Academy of Armenia... I would hesitate because I cannot find the website www.academy.am - when searching it brings me to http://academy.academy-info.com/ ...when I search and click on Armenia, it brings me to http://www.sci.am/ - the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia... This is probably OK but requires explanation from the applicant... What do you think? But when I consult the related google docs files, they do not seem to be there (but I could be doing something wrong...). I had printed them but for me they need a magnifying glass to decipher them. When we migrate to an ICANN/NCSG website, it should prove more robust (I hope....). Marie-laure Lemineur, primary representative for The Center for Study, Analysis and Training in Human Rights (CECADH), Costa Rica, an NCSG member, and NPOC's Program Committee Chair, has applied for position of Volunteer Review Team Member - see http://www.icann.org/en/about/aoc-review/atrt/2/applications. Before seeking GNSO endorsement, Marie-laure would have to receive NCSG endorsement. I see there is at least one more NCSG candidate (Avri). What is the process you have in place or intend to put in place for this endorsement by NCSG and forwarding for GNSO endorsement. Given the different but outstanding qualifications of both Avri and Marie-laure, could NCSG endorse both? Talk to you in 1 hour, still? The group decided to hold a candidate call (like we did with candidates seeking NCSG support for GNSO Chair). But we'll do a single call with all (both) candidates this time. So I will schedule a call with the candidates seeking NCSG support (Marie-Laure and Avri) for the week after next, so NCSG members can ask questions and candidates can explain their goals, expertise, etc. And then NCSG-EC will make a decision to endorse one of the candidates based on what we've heard from the candidates and the members who have expressed an interest. Thanks, Robin IP JUSTICE Robin Gross, Executive Director 1192 Haight Street, San Francisco, CA 94117 USA p: +1-415-553-6261 f: +1-415-462-6451 w: http://www.ipjustice.org e: robin at ipjustice.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The members can also begin to raise the issues of concern that they wish for the NCSG reps to take into ATRT. The NCSG will endorse 1 candidate as our primary recommendation and a 2nd candidate as an additional endorsement (as it says we may do below). NCSG' primary endorsement should be *guaranteed* a seat on the ATRT2 team, while NCSG's secondary endorsement *may* be selected by the GNSO Council to meet its geographic and gender diversity requirements. Two NCSG members have requested NCSG endorsement for their candidacy to participate on the ATRT2 team. NCSG's two candidates are Avri Doria and Marie-Laure Lemineur, both of whom would serve NCSG/ICANN well on the ATRT. One will be endorsed as primary and the other as secondary participants on the ATRT. Their candidate statements are below. NCSG-EC will make the final decision on its list, which is cc'd here along with both NCSG candidates. We have a tight deadline (less than 48-hrs) to make our selections for primary/secondary endorsement, and I'd like to open this up to the membership to ask questions of the candidates and also for the NCSG members to state what the issues are that they would like for NCSG's representatives to take back to ATRT. Therefore now have a 24-hour period to ask the two NCSG candidates questions and to provide them with initial feedback about desired outcomes for the ATRT (using this list beginning now). The ATRT process is extremely important for continuing to improve ICANN's record on accountability and transparency issues, so I encourage you all to take a look and provide some feedback to the candidates at your earliest opportunity. I have experience in being treasurer at national and international level in non-profit organisations. I consider the treasurer task being less impressive in NPOC as NPOC does not have a fully operational structure nor the complex financial structures. This can and will certainly grow in the future.
