[Ncsg-discuss] Candidate statement (Councillor)

Dear NCSG members, here is my candidate statement for the
Councillor position:

Name: Julf (Johan) Helsingius
Declared region of residence: EU
Gender: Male
Employment: Chairman of the Board, BaseN Corporation, and
         Director of country operation in The Netherlands

Any conflicts of interest: No - I am a major shareholder in BaseN,
         a LIR with a relationship with RIPE, but no direct
         relationship with ICANN.

Reasons for willingness to take on the tasks of the particular position:
         I have been fighting for freedom of speech, privacy and an
         open and free Internet for the last 35+ years, and despite
         my hair getting thinner and beard getting whiter, I am not
         about to give up yet

Qualifications for the position:
         40+ years of experience with the Internet community
         7 years on the GNSO Council (4 years as councillor,
         2 years as GNSO Council Liaison to the GAC)
         2 years as NCSG Chair
         Currently GNSO Councillor and chair of the GNSO Standing
         Selection Committee, NCSG representative on the GNSO Standing
         Committee on Continuous Improvement (SCCI)

Statement of availability for the time the position requires:
         Semi-retired, with enough time to spare

Optionally, any other information that the candidate believes is
relevant: Currently also serving (until end of year) as Chair for
         SIY (the Finnish Internet Association, the ISOC Chapter
         in Finland), as well as co-chair or RIPE cooperation
         working group
