[Ncsg-discuss] Latin Diacritics PDP

Latin Diacritics PDP working group just had another meeting.

Most of the time was spent continuing the discussion about what happens when either the applicant withdraws some of the TLDs from their application or some of them fail the evaluation.  Nothing really dramatic there, some issues about clarifying the language.

Then we started discussing about exactly what characters we should consider "diacritics" for the present purpose. No decision was reached yet, discussion will continue, but my proposal to include also so-called non-decomposable diacritics did get a fair amount of support.

As that technical term may not be obvious to all, here's a list of relevant characters along with what Wikipedia says about there usage that I prepared for the WG:

ø (LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH STROKE, U+00F8)	 Danish, Norwegian, Faroese, Southern Sámi, several languages of Africa like Lendu

đ (LATIN SMALL LETTER D WITH STROKE, U+0111)	 African reference alphabet, Kven, Latin, South Slavic languages, Sámi, Vietnamese, old Spanish

As Emmanuel Vitus helpfully pointed out earlier on the WG mailing list, most of them are used mainly in various African languages.

If you know of other languages where those are used, please let me know. (Feel free to update Wikipedia, too.)
