Indeed, something we have been pointing out. How often does
anyone actually type in (or even see) an URL these days,
as opposed to clicking on a link?

I haven't seen much uptake of alternative domain systems (and don't
expect them to gain much traction) as they aren't compatible with
the DNS system and they are computationally inefficient (wasteful).
Luckily the crypto hype seems to have been replaced with the "AI"
hype...

Maybe, just maybe, ICANN will return to its core mission (one can
dream, can't one?). After all, the RIRs seem to be able to survive
despite there not being much of an IP address business boom (yes,
I know, there is a marginal address space hoarding/"rental" business
due to IPv4 address shortage).
