Hi everyone,

I am sending this message as we just finished a few days of the ICANN
meeting in Istanbul which was intense and also meant the completion of a 1
year cycle. I am officially taking over as NCSG chair, starting my first
term, and wanted to share some initial points.

I would like to thank first the previous leadership, Julf and also our
former councillors, Stephanie and Wisdom. I also wish good luck to the new
councillors, Julf, Farzaneh and returning Bruna.

I could have discussions and calls in previous months with Julf to prepare
for the handover and clarify about the backlog of tasks and priorities,
ensuring continuity and smooth transition.

My basic goal and principle will be to continue the ongoing activities and
build upon what was done by predecessors and then work on the next
activities and prepare for those who will take over later. I am
also identifying what we have as challenges and what is coming up as urgent
issues for NCSG, something that never ends.

The roadmap or plan is quite straight forward, between near and long term
actions. We have already to work on planning for the next ICANN meeting,
follow up on action items from the Istanbul meeting such as the cooperation
with our counterpart the CSG but in more general preparing for policy
priority topics for NCSG and other matters like the holistic review where
we need to focus our efforts and attentions.

I will work with the NCSG executive committee and collaborate with the
Policy committee on those different matters. It will also be the same with
the leadership of our constituencies NCUC and NPOC.

I commit to keep you all informed about NCSG activities under my preview
and consult on matters requiring that. I will try to share digestible
report with enough background and explanations.

Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any question, concern or
inquiry.

Best Regards,

Rafik
