ICANN 77 DC Airport to Hotel Travel Information

Hi all!
Wanted to share a quick guide to getting to and from the airports to the Marriott Marquis for the upcoming meeting!


Flying into DCA? Use the Metrorail system for your trips to and from the ICANN 77 Hotel.



For DCA it’s seven stops on the Yellow Line north towards Mt Vernon square / 7th st /Convention Center (The hotel stop).



For IAD, it’s quite a bit longer on the Silver Line, and due to construction that will close a station of the silver line bisecting the service between IAD and downtown DC for the month of June, I cannot recommend Metrorail as the easiest or quickest options. The quickest and easiest option would either be to take a Washington Flyer Airport Cab (readily available) or a Rideshare.



Still, it is the cheapest option and here is how to do it. From IAD, the route is taking a free shuttle bus from IAD to Rosslyn Station. Then getting into the Metrorail system and taking the silver line to L’Enfant Plaza and then transferring at that station to the Yellow Line north to Mt Vernon square / 7th st /Convention Center.

  *   Service available during Metrorail operating hours (Mon. – Thurs. 5 a.m. – 12 a.m., Fri. 5 a.m. – 1 a.m., Sat. 7 a.m. – 1 a.m., Sun. 7 a.m. – 12 a.m.)
  *   Service every 5 minutes during rush hours (6 – 9 a.m., 3 – 7 p.m.)
  *   Service every 10 minutes during non-rush hours
  *   Due to the volume of customers, wait times can be up to 20 minutes during rush hours



If it’s the weekend or a weekday after 9:30pm, metro rates are flat $2 each way + the one-time $2 cost of a smart trip card. If it’s a weekday there are peak (5-9:30 am, 3-7pm) and off-peak fares and the price varies on which stations your trips are between.



DCA: Peak-$2.85, Off-Peak $2.45

IAD / Rosslyn: Peak- $2.30, Off-Peak $2.05



Physical SmarTrip cards can be purchased at vending machines at each station or on your cell phone through the SmarTrip app (and then through the apple / google wallet). The cost is the same, personal choice on how you want to do it.





Flying into BWI? Amtrak / MARC rail are available but taking a rideshare might be the best option. Ask me to explain this if needed.





TLDR: The Metro is the cheapest and quickest way to the hotel from DCA. From IAD, it’s still the cheapest but not quickest or easiest. WMATA makes the whole process difficult so feel free to let Me know if you have any questions
