Dear Tomslin,

Thanks for allowing us to make comments on the Council agenda. I hope you have a good trip and that you make your strategic planning a successful one.

I would like to react on the "SCBO next step agenda” agenda item and share that I don’t have any objection with the way forward suggested in the document since the document is quite clear on what "the newly envisioned SCBO will NOT do”, the NCSG will still produce its own public comments as it used to do in the past. At the inception of the SCBO, as far as I remember (I was on Council at that time), one of ours was chairing it and it was a very good way for him to help gather more inputs from the Finance team and better draft the public comment on behalf of the NCSG.

I haven't been able to follow the recent public comments we made on ICANN finances and OP lately nor the work of the SCBO, but I saw that we did not submit any for FYI 2023. I would like to know whether there was any particular reason for us not sending one and whether we have members active in there. Now that the SCBO might be more open to the GNSO members, maybe we should aim at having many of our members, who are subject matter experts, to join it and be active as it is a good avenue to get the necessary responses and data to help inform NCSG’s public comments.

And my guess is that, responding to question 2 of the document, the GNSO might receive from the SCBO tailored "information that is not already covered by accompanying webinars hosted by the Finance and Planning team in preparation for each budget and planning cycle”, this gives more value to this standing committee in its newly suggested format.

I hope our Councilors adopt it.

Regards,
Arsene
