Greetings from Sénégal and thank you all for your inputs in this debate.
Finally, I've learned more with your testimonies. Thanks a lot.
Certainly, Emmanuel Vitus will agree with me that our beloved native
country, .TG, belong to this category of bureaucratics and monopolies
countries in Africa. And the model of France was they one they have finally
'imposed' to us and this was done with the national regulator stewardship.
It's a long story to tell since this .TG charter appeared with the
redelegation process which delayed about 6 to 7 years of discussions within
the lnternet local community : ISoc chapter, ISPs representatives, ICT
professionnals association (ESTETIC), National Universities Delegates (Lomé
and Kara) and the National Regulator (ART&T now named ARCEP-Togo).
In Togo, we have a front multi-stakeholder process. What comes out is most
often oriented in favor of those in power, not always for the benefit of
end users. Moreover, I remember that the EC of the ISoc chapter which had
participated in the so-called inclusive debates on the subject, refused to
ratify the final document until this day. The only 'spectacular' effect is
that the cost of the .tg domain has dropped significantly but still more
expensive than a .com or a .org etc.
In short, all this complicates the atmosphere of life in Togo, a country
monopolized for more than 50 years.
My 2 cents
