27 Large, Respected Non-Profits Send Letter to Internet Society Urging It to Stop Sale of .ORG

Hmm, well, 27 large, respected nonprofits may have their heads up their posteriors.
Why are they asking ISOC to stop the sale of PIR? The sale is a huge benefit to ISOC. In fact, it is the only thing about this deal that makes good sense. ISOC no longer has to run a nonprofit that makes a big profit. It can detach itself from the domain name industry and lose its conflict of interest in the ICANN DNS policy making process.

As I  said in my previous message, we shouldn’t care too much who owns .org; we should care about the contractual substance in the .org Registry Agreement (RA)

The American Alliance of Museums, the Crisis Text Line, Girl Scouts, National Council of Nonprofits, Public Knowledge, R Street, YMCA, Wikimedia Foundation, and EFF, among others, have sent a letter today to the Internet Society urging it to stop the sale of the Public Interest Registry to Ethos Capital. The group has argued that .ORG is extremely important to the non-profit community, and as such, they should have a voice in decisions affecting the future of the domain.
