Dear NCSG Members,
I have to sadly announce that I will not be able to seek re-election for
NCSG chair in the upcoming elections. This was not an easy decision but I
believe it is in the best interest of NCSG and myself. I cannot travel
outside of the US for potentially a year and it is very uncertain when I
will be able to start traveling again. While attending the meetings
remotely can be very effective, NCSG chair position requires presence in
meetings. NCSG members and leaders went out of their way to help me in
ICANN 62, carrying out many of my tasks in Panama. But NCSG chair has to
build connections with other stakeholder groups and SO/ACs, and hold many
other meetings that need to be done face to face during ICANN meetings and
it is a struggle to delegate since full engagement with the tasks leading
up to the meetings is very much needed and cannot be effective with
briefings. Many of the NCSG leaders are also very busy and it is not fair
to burden them with NCSG Chair tasks. I certainly do not want to take away
the chance from NCSG to have an effective NCSG chair who can attend the
meetings and further NCSG interest.
It's a difficult time for me personally and professionally. But I have
enjoyed the challenges and working with you. Thank you for your trust and
sorry for the shortcomings.
I will continue carrying out my tasks as usual. When the elections end on
21st of August and results are announced, I will arrange for the new NCSG
chair to be involved with all the tasks leading up to ICANN 63 so that the
Chair can run the Barcelona meeting in person. I will also work with NCSG
EC and those members that will be present in Barcelona to have a fully
engaged NCSG.
This is not a goodbye. I will see you around (well remotely) and remain
committed to having a smooth transition for the next NCSG chair. I will
also help NCSG to advance its values and promote what we stand for in
domain name policy.
We can perhaps call this "Badii Out" :)
Best regards,
Farzaneh
