The attached file is well worth reading. This is the advice that external counsel has delivered to the RDS PDP WG on whether or not WHOIS complies with GDPR. With this document, privacy advocates - and the frankly common-sense views they have defended - are vindicated. I am over simplifying the conclusion and the scope of the work performed, so please do read this document yourself to understand what questions were put to counsel, but I definitely think it is worth your time reviewing.
