Tax Disclosure

Hi everyone,
  
 ICANN has released it's U.S. FY 2016 tax return (Form 990). It can be

 Unlike budgets and operating plans, tax disclosures tend to be factual 
without the public relations gloss present in the other documents. I'd 
encourage people to take a look at the numbers for themselves.
  
 Of particular interest to many NCSG members may be the spending 
differential reported between various regions of the world. Equitable is 
not the word that comes to mind. Many expenses that may be related to the 
transition - lobbying, for example, as well monies paid to law firms not 
named Jones Day, will likely be elevated as well in FY17 but we would 
expect a decline in FY18. We need to monitor to make sure that happens. The 
selections of projects and institutions selected for donations paid for by 
ICANN is also quite interesting. In certain cases, it does appear to help 
to have former ICANN Board members heading your project or institution. We 
may want to get some explanation about how the choices about what to fund 
and what not to fund are made. 
  
 I wanted to get the link out there to everyone ASAP, so I've only had a 
quick look at the data. Lots to look at and think about.
