[NCSG-PC] URGENT: Vote in the ICANN Board Seat #14 Election

I agree with Ayden’s sentiments, we needed more transparency. But, like James Gannon, I realize that the election of the board seat involves cooperation at the Council level with the Commercial SG and thus is complicated and contentious. These elections always have a flavor of backroom horse-trading because of that.

Here is what I see as the real problem: Why didn’t someone – should be the NCSG chair but could be any Council member –  say, “hey members, we have two people running for a board seat, one of them is NCUC member Matt Shears, the other is incumbent Markus Kummer, who has in relative terms been a friend of NCSG. The Councilors who are supposed to represent you will need to pick one soon. Who do you think they ought to support?”

Tapani, you said discussions about this were going on for a long time. Most of us NCSG members, myself included, had no idea this was going on. There were, as far as I know, no formal nominations or declarations of candidacy on the list. Probably there were discussions on the Policy Committee (PC) list again; or perhaps the NCSG Executive Committee, I don’t know. So this is very similar to the concern expressed yesterday about the budget comments: there seems to be a growing sense among elected officers that they can talk amongst themselves and not involve or even inform the membership in crucial issues. This has to change.

Adding irony to this problem is that while all this information was _not_ being conveyed Tapani had time to send two messages scolding the NCUC EC about their decision to hold a quick 48 hour voting period for an _uncontested_ NCUC EC replacement election. Wow. What kind of political games are being played here?
