Well said Ayden. But does the conference or meetings mentioned have a
particular set dates to enable us checks if ICANN meeting proposed dates
conflict.
Regards
Peter.

So in order to respond to this comment, I would suggest that we first need
to determine what kinds of date clashes we would find problematic and
unacceptable.
Firstly, and I think this is uncontroversial, I think we do not want ICANN
meetings conflicting with IETF meetings, WSIS, or the IGF. It seems ICANN
staff have already taken care to ensure this does not occur.
Secondly, there are national and regional events where our members are
active. I would not want an ICANN meeting to conflict with a regional IGF,
though I would be more indifferent to an ICANN meeting conflicting with,
say, an RIR meeting (though it seems unlikely to me that this would occur).
However, there are recurring civil society events which we would not want a
meeting to conflict with. I have thought of Rightscon, MozFest, and the
Internet Freedom Festival, but what others have I forgotten about?
Thirdly, we come onto statutory holidays. US national holidays are
apparently so important that ICANN staff have taken care to ensure there
are no conflicts with these ones. But what other holidays are celebrated
outside of the US that could impact our members and their ability to attend
ICANN meetings?
Fourth, religious and cultural holidays. I think ICANN staff have already
taken care here to make sure dates don't conflict with most holidays with a
global footprint, but we do need to check this.
Then we have important political events like national elections. Is that
something we should look out for? Similarly, should we be mindful of major
world events like the Olympic Games or the FIFA World Cup?
And what about school holidays? I think this is rather unavoidable
unfortunately, but am mindful that if we have any parents amongst us this
could be a barrier to attendance.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,

hi all,
early this week, a public consultation started to get community input
regarding the dates for ICANN meetings in 2021-2023
https://www.icann.org/public-comments/icann-meetings-dates-2017-08-21-en.
As explained here: *"Purpose: The purpose of this public comment proceeding
is to solicit and collect feedback from the community on the proposed dates
for ICANN Public Meetings to be held in 2021, 2022, and 2023. The advance
notice gives the community an opportunity to identify potential conflicts
before ICANN posts the official dates. It also gives participants enough
time to plan their travel and attendance.*"
if there is enough interest, we can work on a short comment if we have any
concerns about the proposed dates. Please let me know if you want to
volunteer to take the lead for drafting.
Best,
Rafik
