+1 Big ED! I am a newcomer to this community, recently teaching the next generation of Leaders in Tripoli, Libya.
I joined a working group but could not participate, due to unreliable internet access in Tripoli, which is now a war zone.
I am a World-Beater in my own right, but I will say this: Ed Morris is the smartest man I have EVER met....Thanks for
reading this...!

Hi everyone,
My apologies for this delayed response. I just returned from travels in parts of the world where, as Norbert often reminds us, internet access is a luxury not readily available to the lone individual. I’m proud to be part of a group of individuals who want that to change: the NCSG.
Thanks to Rafik for doing such a great job running this election. It’s not an easy job and, frankly, is a rather thankless one. Rafik was always there when I had a question about the process, and I had many, with prompt responses that proved to be accurate. I was pleasantly surprised that one man could do such a good job. Thanks again Rafik.
To those who voted for me: thank you. It’s both humbling and shocking to have your name placed on a ballot and see people actually vote for you. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to that. I’ll do my best to honor your confidence in me by doing the best job I possibly can. I’ll never be as smart as Wendy (face it, none of us are :) ), as talented as Joy or as charming and effective as Maria, just to name a few of those who have preceded me in this position, but I can promise you that no one will outwork me. That’s one variable I can control.
I am so excited to be able to work with my fellow “newbies”: Stephanie and Marilia. Congratulations to both of you! Thanks to Sam for waging such a positive and thoughtful campaign: I’ll need your help and input going forward; we all do.
To our incumbent Counselors – David, Avri and Amr – it’s an honour to be joining you on Council. I’m certainly going to need your guidance as I try to sort out how things on Council actually work. My informational needs are nothing new for Avri: I’ve been bugging her with questions since we met in the basement of a cafeteria in a converted monastery in Germany several years ago. She’s always been willing to provide answers, no matter how dumb my questions were, to her great credit.
We have a lot of work to do, both within our PC and within the Council. We need more people to be involved, that needs to be a priority. Nuno is absolutely correct: we need to close the distance between the GNSO and the community. Amr has suggested that folks can join a WG to get more involved. He’s right. Another way would be for folks to help out in writing public comments. That’s something I’ve been doing and I’m happy to help out anyone who wants to give it a try. Hopefully we’ll heed Stephanie’s call and get things a bit more organized on the PC so we can help people engage in both activities.
Thanks again everyone. Time to get to work.
Ed

Dear NCSG Members:
The NCSG annual election results are back and attached to this email.
Congrats to the NCSG's 4 elected GNSO Councilors: Stephanie Perrin (2 years term), David Cake (2 years term), Edward Morris (2 years term) and Marilia Maciel (1 year term). I am also re-elected for 1 year-term as NCSG chair.
A deep thanks to the other candidates, the nominators, and everyone who checked-in, voted in the election. And also we couldn't have held the election without the tireless assistance of Glen de Saint Gery from ICANN staff. Special thanks to our departing councillors for their work and representing NCSG within the GNSO council: Klaus Stoll, Maria Farell and Magaly Pazello .
The term for these positions begins at the conclusion of the ICANN meeting in Los Angeles (17 October).
Voters can check their individual ballot ID against the list of votes cast (attached) to verify that their vote was counted correctly.
Finally, all election details are summarized in this page https://community.icann.org/display/gnsononcomstake/Elections-2014
Best Regards,
Rafik Dammak
NCSG chair
