I have also gone to ICANN79 as a fellow and then to ICANN81 as a member of the NCSG EC, <b>having never used the NCUC EC slot in both my terms</b> (2023-2024 and now 2024-2025), giving way to other EC members who could benefit more from this opportunity in those moments.</div><div><br></div><div>The effort mentioned above involves not only administrative work (such as helping to organize multiple NCUC Issue Forums), where I try to promote a few changes that I believe will be beneficial to the non-commercial community; but also policy work related particularly to (i) Rights Protection Mechanisms (<b>I'm an active <a href="https://community.icann.org/display/RPMIRT/Members" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">member of the RPM IRT</a></b> and my almost full attendance to the meetings of this team can be checked <a href="https://community.icann.org/display/RPMIRT/Meetings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">here</a>) and the (ii) Next Round of new gTLDs (highlighting the ASP, <b>which was the subject of our NCUC Issue Forum in ICANN81</b>), while also participating (less intensively) in a few other policy topics, such as privacy matters.<br></div><div><br><div>I'm part of (and try to always contribute to, speaking or through chat) most of the recent Policy Committee meetings, something that can be proven by <a href="https://community.icann.org/display/gnsononcomstake/NCSG+Monthly+Policy+Meetings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">attendance registrations and recordings</a>. I try to follow most GNSO meetings that are included in the agenda topics that I'm working with, so I am becoming more familiar, during the last few months, with the functioning of the Council. I have also <a href="https://community.icann.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=64077781" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">recently become a member of the GNSO Standing Selection Committee</a>.<br></div><div><b><br></b></div><div><b>Tomslin gently provided me with a letter of support as well, attached, if I go as an alternate to the GNSO Councilor.</b></div></div><div><br></div><div>My time at ICANN meetings is directed to the diverse types of work listed above, trying to go beyond the basic obligations of the positions that I'm currently on (<b>for example, in ICANN79 and ICANN81 I was in conversations with PIR staff so we could develop an <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pM1Z-Wh-6msTdRxV17gDxLeT8Y1Paopi4fpB6gM6sqQ/edit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">NCSG Policy Fellowship</a> funded by this entity</b>). This is something that I also plan to do in ICANN83, especially because many of these demands and plans that I have, aiming to improve the non-commercial strength within ICANN, are continuing efforts. Being onsite helps a lot to get things going faster and more effectively, particularly when it depends on connecting with new people and being recognized by them as someone trustworthy and capable of completing my assigned tasks. Finally, I also intend to <b>start a dialogue and capacity building among the non-commercial community on the incoming UDRP review</b>, which will be a big subject for the next few months and my main subject of interest since I started following ICANN, <b>and advance a few extra steps on the work we are doing regarding the ASP and the SubPro/Next Round</b>.</div><div><br></div><div>As a side note, I believe it is important to be onsite at the meeting because my day-to-day work in a ccTLD - I joined NIC.br after starting my activities in ICANN and after assuming my NCUC EC position, so I don't represent this organization in ICANN in any manner - allows me to dedicate my time fully to ICANN meetings I'm participating in, even on non-ccTLD related work (as long as they are not funding, which is the case regarding my ICANN/GNSO commitments and roles). This means that, when traveling to the Meetings, I can focus only on NCSG activities, something that I cannot do while participating online because of a normally quite heavy workload.</div><div><br></div><div>Cordially,</div><div><br clear="all"></div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><span style="font-family:garamond,"times new roman",serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><b>Pedro de Perdigão Lana</b></font></font></span></div></div></div></div><div><br></div></div>
