<div dir="ltr"><div>Hi everyone,</div><div><br></div><div>
I liked Julf's idea of thinking about what we want to achieve.
</div><div><br></div><div>Considering what Julf has said, I think it should be useful to ask Peter if he intends (and will be able) to participate online as a GNSO Councilor in ICANN82. If we would need to appoint an actual alternate, then Tapani and Farell seem to have more experience policy-wise indeed. If not, I'd think of joining this travel slot with a plan of promoting engagement during the meeting, with specific tasks to be fulfilled and objective goals to be detailed in the report afterwards.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Cordially,</div><div><br clear="all"></div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><b>Pedro de Perdigão Lana</b><br></font></font></span><div><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><a href="https://www.nic.br/" target="_blank">Lawyer</a>, </font></font></span><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><a href="https://www.gedai.com.br/" target="_blank">GEDAI/UFPR</a> Researcher</font></font></span></font></font></span></font></font></span></div><div><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2">PhD Candidate (UFPR), LLM in Business Law (UCoimbra)</font></font></span><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"> </font></font></span></font></font></span></div><div><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"></span></font></font></span></div><div><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2">Coordination/Board/EC @</font></font></span><span style="font-family:times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"> </font></font></span><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="2"><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><a href="https://isoc.org.br/" target="_blank">ISOC BR</a></span></font><font size="1"><font size="2">,</font></font></span><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"> </font></font><font size="2"><a href="https://www.ncuc.org" target="_blank">NCUC</a> & <a href="https://community.icann.org/display/gnsononcomstake/Home" target="_blank">NCSG </a>(ICANN), <a href="https://youthlacigf.lat/" target="_blank">YouthLACIGF</a>,</font></span><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"> <a href="https://ioda.org.br/" target="_blank">IODA</a> and </font></font></span><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><a href="https://br.creativecommons.net/" target="_blank">CC Brasil</a></font></font></span><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"><font size="1"><font size="2"><br></font></font></span></div><div><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif"></span></div><div><font size="1"><span style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif">This message is restricted to the sender and recipient(s). I agree that if we look at previous experience, Benjamin and Tapani are<br>
the ones that stand out, but for very different reasons. Benjamin has<br>
been excellent at building and mobilizing community, while Tapani<br>
has mostly done his work in the background, supporting the smooth<br>
running and administration of NCSG.<br>
<br>
Therefore I would like to take a step back and ask what we want to<br>
accomplish by allocating this travel slot. I see three different<br>
possible purposes:<br>
<br>
1) Strengthen and build the community. attracting newcomers - in this<br>
case Benjamin is the obvious choice<br>
2) Pull in less experienced people into the policy processes and<br>
council work, helping them become more active contributors - in this<br>
case we should go for one of the other candidates<br>
3) Bring back people who have made major contributions to NCSG, but who<br>
have, for various reasons, not been active lately, but show interest<br>
in getting back into the game. This would be Tapani and Farell.<br>
