Coming out of a busy, challenging, and thoroughly enjoyable meeting in Seville, I wanted to share a few reflections on ICANN 86. <br>
<br>
First off, I’d like to reiterate my thanks for the trust in reappointing me to Board Seat 14 for the coming term, and it was a pleasure to speak to the House in the Monday work session and to attend a few of the constituency group meetings during the week. <br>
<br>
Second, there will be a Chair’s blog published soon, reporting on our workshop and Board meeting that preceded the ICANN meeting - needless to say, I’d strongly encourage everyone to read it! In the meantime though, the Resolutions from that Board meeting are live here: <br>

Adoption of both the Transfer Policy and the IDN EPDP Phase 2 Recommendations were among the Resolutions passed during the Board meeting, and I’d highlight the following inclusion in the rationale for the adoption of the Transfer Policy (relating to an issue that many have stressed as critical, including in recent correspondence to the Board): <br>

> The Board acknowledges community concerns about the timing and process for the Board's review of PDP Working Group Recommendations that have been approved by the GNSO Council (these recommendations were cited as one example) and is reviewing its processes to improve their efficiency and transparency.<br>

Much of the week's schedule was dedicated to three significant community discussions currently underway - the SSAD Supplemental Recommendations, the DNS Abuse Mitigation PDP 1, and the Review of Reviews; my sense is that notable progress was made on each through substantive sessions, and there will certainly be further follow up on all three in the coming weeks. My breakfast meetings with participants from the Commercial and Non-Commercial sides of the NCPH were extremely productive, and highlighted again for me the challenge of balancing the need that many feel for urgent action to address DNS abuse against concerns around the rights of registrants and users. This week felt like a level-up in terms of practical progress in those discussions. <br>
<br>
Finally, it was a real pleasure to close out the week with dinner with the Non-Commercial User Constituency and spend time with many of the new community members (as well as getting a brief history lesson on the creation of the NCUC from Kathy Kleiman!). A sincere thank you to the NCUC for the invitation and the welcome! <br>
