Latin Diacritics PDP working group held a meeting in Mumbai yesterday.<br>

There isn't all that much to report, however. The agenda was reviewing<br>

public comments on the preliminary report, but there was time for only<br>

one of them: the one from ICANN org. That was *very* long, but mostly<br>

about minor language issues - for example, fair amount of time was<br>

spent on talking about the differences (or lack thereof) between<br>

"in accordance with", "in line with" and "consistent with".<br>

One of their more substantive concerns was if the applicant would<br>

be allowed to withdraw the ASCII version of the domain and continue<br>

to apply only for the diacritical one. The WG thought (like before)<br>

that it should be allowed, as it would in effect be no different<br>

than applying for only the diacritical one to begin with.<br>

<br>

(This would not apply if there are several diacritical domains,<br>

as at least for now multiple diacritical domains would only be<br>

allowed to coexist together with the corresponding ASCII TLD.)<br>

<br>

There was some interesting discussion about whether diacritical<br>

domains would have to be "the same", i.e., just different spellings of<br>

the same words, or if they could be really different (in many<br>

languages diacritical marks can change the meaning of the word<br>

entirely). It was noted that the PDP's intent is the former but that<br>

in practice there's no way to enforce it.<br>

Other comments, including NCSG's, will be discussed in future<br>

online meetings.<br>
