<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr">Thanks for sharing this with the list, Rafik! <div><br></div><div>The issue of community availability in days like these were also raised at the Cross-Community Strategic Outlook sessions hosted on monday. At the meeting, the attendees acknowledged we have come a long way in terms of breaking the silos and SOAC Chairs have been working more collaborative and productively together - but we still had some challenges to overcome. </div><div><br></div><div>Besides that, some attendees also pointed out something similar to the SOAC Leadership concerns - with regards to the chance that the model of how the ICANN community operates is being challenged as we speak. <p class="MsoNormal">Last week, the SO/AC Leaders had a call with Goran to discuss work prioritization and impact of COVID-19 on ICANN and the community. Here are my summary notes:<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><u></u> <u></u></p>
<ol style="margin-top:0in" start="1" type="1">
<li style="margin-left:0in">Discussion focused on the impact of COVID-19 on ICANN, the community, work prioritization and meeting planning.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">ICANN 68 almost certainly will be a remote engagement, no F2F. I expect we’ll receive formal notice soon.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">ICANN Org is developing an “engagement paper” to be shared with the SO/AC leaders, timing TBD.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">The engagement paper will lay out how ICANN will transition to a slower pace of work and planning for future meetings.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">They are looking at a 6-month rolling window of planning and likely no F2F meetings of any kind before September.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">Goran said they are assessing the prioritization level of all ICANN work and bucketizing them, into 5 categories:<u></u><u></u>

<li style="margin-left:0in">Hot Topics such as .com agreement, .org transfer, fighting DNS abuse<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">Bylaws Requirements such as budget, NomCom, ATRT3<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">Policy work such as GNSO PDPs<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">ICANN’s technical coordination and obligations, including work with Verisign on RZM functions, etc.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">“the rest”<u></u><u></u></li></ol>
</li><li style="margin-left:0in">Goran said he believes community availability is currently at 70% and could potentially decrease as members are impacted by COVID-19.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">Goran said multiple times he’s concerned about capture if key parts of the community are unable to participate effectively.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">Specific questions were raised about GNSO policy development work, and the need to coordinate prioritization with other parts of the community.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">We will have a follow-up call at some point to discuss cross-community prioritization in the face of COVID-19. I noted the SO/AC discussions we had in January have been overtaken by
events, so we need to look at it again.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">Goran said no one from ICANN Org or Board has been infected at this time.<u></u><u></u></li><li style="margin-left:0in">He called on everyone to prioritize their safety and to “be kind” to one another.<u></u><u></u></li></ol>
