This session is very important because it will discuss “whois purpose” and the documents it has so far provided are not consistent at all with ICANN mission regarding WHOIS purpose and are too broad. So if we want better privacy, we need to narrow these definitions and argue that many are not within ICANN mission. See you there to achieve this goal at RDS meeting?

To do that we need to be organized and strategic. Try to attend the session called “How it works: understanding DNS abuse”. There is also a project being led by ICANN called Domain Name Abuse Activity Reporting. https://www.icann.org/octo-ssr/daar This project can also be problematic and they will have a meeting on Thursday which you might want to attend.

Their public safety group will have a meeting with them to talk about GDPR! And that would be an interesting meeting if it’s open to the public (I assume it is). If open, it is good to see what they are planning (or I call it cook it for the next couple of months). GAC’s well known action to claim two letter domain at the second level will be also discussed in San Juan. Unfortunately it conflicts with our NCSG inreach but I will ask our GNSO GAC liaison to let us know what they are planning to claim next. They will discuss .Amazon and Geographic names as well. Probably some GAC members want to claim all geographic names even when they are generic names! Would be good to keep an eye on that as well.
