Although there has been some variance in the amount of transit time, by and large most (all?) travellers arrived the night before the meeting begun. As all 3 NCPH Intersessionals have thus far been the same length, from a review of the past travel reports, it appears that each traveller has received an average of 4 nights hotel per meeting. A small number left a day early. It's just that on every metric - hotel, flight, per diem - Iceland was more expensive than Los Angeles and Washington DC.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Now this does not explain why some people receive greater per diems than others, or why others have expenses reimbursed (which are recorded differently to visas), but I wanted to flag this travel report because it was a community decision to take the meeting to Iceland. And it was the NCSG which pushed the strongest for this location, though I concede the NCUC Chair Farzaneh Badii did try to inject a dose of reality into the conversation by noting that her research indicated that Iceland was more expensive than Singapore (itself not the most economical destination).<br></div><div><br></div><div>Please remember that this travel report does not include other associated costs -- venue hire, location scouting (I am told that the Meetings team did a visit to Iceland a few weeks ahead of time to inspect the hotel), catering, staff and Board travel.<br></div><div><br></div><div>In the past we have had conversations around whether or not the Intersessional is 'worth it', and on balance, I feel very strongly that it is. But I think it was incorrect for us to assert, as some of our members did, that Iceland would be a more economical option than the US. That's something that I think we have to acknowledge. We were wrong. In the future if we push for meeting rotations, I hope we can provide a better justification, remembering that this is not an outreach event; this should be a strategy workshop.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Just my thoughts,<br></div><div><br></div><div>Ayden<br></div><div class="m_-4813219371697437099protonmail_signature_block"><div class="m_-4813219371697437099protonmail_signature_block-proton m_-4813219371697437099protonmail_signature_block-empty"><br></div></div><div><br></div><blockquote type="cite" class="m_-4813219371697437099protonmail_quote"><span class=""><div>-------- Original Message --------<br></div><div>Subject: Re: GNSO NCPH Intersessional Meeting 2017 Travel Report<br></div></span><div><div class="h5"><div>Local Time: 18 October 2017 2:59 PM<br></div><div>UTC Time: 18 October 2017 13:59<br></div><div>From: <a href="mailto:plommer@GMAIL.COM" target="_blank">plommer@GMAIL.COM</a><br></div><div>To: <a href="mailto:NCSG-DISCUSS@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU" target="_blank">NCSG-DISCUSS@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU</a><br></div><div><br></div><div dir="ltr"><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><span style="font-size:12.8px" class="m_-4813219371697437099size">There was a modest increase by four supported travellers.
