I hate to be the pedantic one here but as I understand this ccWP, it
is a bottom up initiative among ICANN participants. It has no ICANN
chartering process, etc. and hence carries the ad hoc Working Party
(WP) label. It is not a formal ICANN Working Group (WG).

I hope I am correct in asking that all communications use proper
identifiers, and call it a Working Party, and not a group, or there
may be unnecessary and troublesome confusion both inside ICANN and

The aim of this group is in two parts : 1. to create awareness
about the various ways in which ICANN is impacting human rights,
and 2. to visualise, document and map cases for the same.
We are therefore, trying to raise awareness on how these
priority areas connect with human rights and will produce
fundamental research on these topics first, and in addition to
that we are also looking to provide in depth research to other
sub groups on urgent PDPs.

As discussed during our working session as well, human rights
We had the first call for the CCWP-HR Research
Sub Group on the 4th of April. It was a
productive call, where we decided how to go
ahead with our work and mandate.

The aim of this sub group is two fold. The first
is visualizing, mapping and documenting cases in
which ICANN is, and potentially will, impact
human rights. The second is creating awareness
about the various ways in which ICANN is
impacting human rights.

As one can imagine, this is a complicated task
and so the group decided it was best if we begin
by looking at the following areas as they are of
the highest priority as of now. This sub group
will focus on providing research that raises
awareness and breaks down the human rights
impact of ICANN.

The priority areas as of now, with present

would help with coordinating tasks within the
I'd encourage all those interested in human
rights work at ICANN to get involved by
volunteering to work on one of the focus areas
mentioned above. We will divide micro tasks
