RE: Member Admission Process and Member Databases

This NCSG discussion about member admission process and member
databases has churned up again a number long standing and
important issues and NPOC, as the constituency focused on Not-for-Profit operational concerns within ICANN’s
remit, will have a longer comment to share by mid-week. Thus far
the discussion has flagged a number of issues that could be
divided into: (a) internal NCSG housekeeping (membership
databases); (b) issues to be examined that reside within the
NCSG Charter; and (c)
issues that would be more appropriately addressed within a
Charter review.

There is a risk of confusing the dialogue when
the issues are not separated out into their appropriate
contexts, when history is correctly understood but wrongly used
as a basis for conclusions, and when suggestions for
improvements within the Charter are entangled with suggestions
for changes to the Charter.

NPOC’s upcoming mid-week comment is intended
to add clarity to the dialogue and hopefully allow us to arrive
at needed changes that will serve the global non-commercial
Internet user community.
