We have members who have been fellows and can attest to the fact that the fellowship program provides a great entree to ICANN meetings and processes. Moreover, Joy and I spoke to the fellows in Beijing and a number of them said afterwards that they intended to apply for membership (I believe some applications may be awaiting action by the NCSG EC already). Others of us have spoken to previous fellowship meetings and had the same experience. So it's definitely a connection worth fostering…</div><div><br></div><div>Buenos Aires could be a particularly interesting meeting to get oneself to. In addition to the expected developments in the larger ICANN environment regarding the disposition of GAC advice on new gTLDs etc etc, there will be events of more local interest as well. I believe NPOC will be doing a conference on the Friday prior, and on the same day NCUC expects to be doing an event off site at a local university in conjunction with the APC and the African School on Internet Governance. The program seeks to identify members of the Internet community who either have not previously been able to participate in ICANN processes and constituent organizations, or those who require further exposure to the Internet community and its work but cannot travel and attend a meeting without financial support. This outreach program seeks participants from developing regions and countries of the world, in order to help create a broader base of knowledgeable constituents who will become the new voice of experience in their regions and beyond.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; "><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; ">Applications to become an ICANN Fellow are assessed for each meeting by an independent selection committee.
